The article deals with the problem of studying students’ views of the instrumental competence of journalists (ICJ) as a predictor of their professional development. The urgency of the issues under consideration is justified by the need to use the Educational Data Mining (EDM) system in higher education institutions, which is caused by the contradictions between the contemporary demands of the journalism labour market and the professional training of graduates. In this regard, the proposed study is aimed at finding possible causes for existing contradictions. Based on the results of the study of educational documents and the review of the scientific literature, authors identified the 23 information computer technologies skills that are required for journalists to perform professional tasks. The students of the first year of study (N=207) of three universities were asked to evaluate the importance/necessity of these ICT skills. The used in the survey questionnaire, that consist of demographic and Likert-type questions provided an opportunity to rank the importance of assessed skills and to identify through factor analysis four significant groups of ICJcomponents. They are web publishing skills, cybersecurity skills, multimedia content preparation skills, and media promotion tools. Authors compared the results of the first-year students’ survey with the results of the analysis of educational programs in the speciality 061 “Journalism” (of Ukrainian universities) and identified the directions of possible improvement of the organizational component of journalistic education. The conclusions justify the using of illuminated research methodology to develop a system of analysis of educational perception data and propose prospective directions for further research. У статті розглянуто проблему вивчення уявлень студентів про інструментальну компетентність журналістів (ІКЖ) як предиктора їх професійного становлення. Актуальність розглядуваних питань обґрунтовано необхідністю використання системи EDM в закладах вищої освіти, що зумовлено суперечностями, які спостерігаються між сучасними запитами ринку праці в галузі журналістики та професійною підготовкою випускників. У зв’язку з цим пропоноване дослідження спрямовано на пошуки можливих причин існуючих суперечностей. На основі результатів вивчення освітніх документів та наукової літератури виокремлено 23 ІКТ-навички (компоненти ІКЖ), необхідні журналістам для виконання професійних завдань та запропоновано студентам першого року навчання (N=207) трьох закладів вищої освіти оцінити їх важливість (необхідність). Використана в дослідженні анкета, що складалась із блоку демографічних запитань та блоку Likert-type запитань, дала змогу побудувати рейтинг важливості оцінюваних навичок для студентів І курсу та за допомогою факторного аналізу визначити чотири значущі групи компонентів ІКЖ, які в основному відповідають сучасній науковій думці: навички вебпублікації; навички кібербезпеки, навички підготовки мультимедійного контенту та володіння інструментами просування медіа. Результати опитування першокурсників зіставлено з результатами аналізу освітніх програм за спеціальністю 061 «Журналістика» українських університетів та виявлено напрями можливого удосконалення організаційного складника журналістської освіти. У висновках аргументовано використання методики висвітленого дослідження для розроблення одного з компонентів системи аналізу освітніх perception data і запропоновано перспективні напрями подальших досліджень, зокрема, вивчення уявлень про різні компоненти професійної компетентності журналістів студентів, викладачів та потенційних роботодавців з метою їх синхронізації в аспекті вдосконалення журналістської освіти. |
